German Jet Fighter cutaway by Frohickey German Jet Fighter cutaway by Frohickey
This is a cutaway illustration of a fictitious German WW2 fighter plane I designed. It was the second attempt at a cutaway detail drawing.

It that a MG42 in the plane?

No. I fudged it on that part. I made up guns that resemble Browning .50 calibre heavy machine guns instead of the proper German Mg 34s or 42s.

i dunno the front gunner position seems a bit too open for my taste. In a dogfight thats where i`d aim first

Well, I fell that this is more of a heavily armed reconnaissance aircraft.

my first thought was "this looks cool but it makes no sense," then I thought it might work as a recon aircraft, but that is still a maybe, still looks cool though.

Indeed, they were. I loved the ideia for a orbital bomber. That was a crazy concept for the 40s, and Hitler really taken it seriously! o.O

Anyway, cool work you have here :)

The information is carce, because it didn't pass the project stage, but it is extremly advanced in concept, even to our time.

It's a great drawing but I don't think the front looks very good, looks like it would act as an air brake plus the pilot may have trouble seeing the ground. Plus for a jet having the navigator sitting backwards sounds not so great. I don't mean to sound mean, just saying. I do like it though.

Interesting design, it’s as streamlined as a scrotum full of digestive biscuits, but does have a nice lot of guns. I like the detail of the interior.

Thank you very much. German aircraft of the WWII period always seem to have a sinister menace in their design. The crosses and swastikas sure add to it as well. The Ju 87 Stuka is the best example of that. :D

It took a bit of time. I'd always wanted to do a cutaway illustration and the Germans designed such cool aircraft.:)

Very interesting concept. This cross section was made with good technique, but the general perspective seems a bit distorted. Look the line of rear wings and forward wings.

no offense but why is there a drawing table in there, for the really long missions? lol :P

That is the table where the navigator studies his maps and plots courses.

ya but that makes it a navigation desk, you would just doodle on the maps wouldn't you lol

:iconfrohickey:

Sure, but once I'd plotted the course there'd be nothing to do until after the bombing mission was complete. I might as well doodle ( I would bring my own paper.)

Thanks. I've always been interested in German WWII engineering. If you haven't seen this site, you might want to have a look. Some dedicated aircraft engineers have been building full-size, operational Me-262 jet fighters from scratch. [link]
