Art Book Number 6 by Frohickey Art Book Number 6 by Frohickey
In case anyone wonders where all the artwork I post here goes afterwards, it goes into one of these books. This one is a handmade journal from India with a "cruelty-free" leather cover (made from animals that died on their own and were not killed). This is the sixth book I've put artwork into (all the others are handmade books from Nepal or India). Each one has about 100 pieces of art, all about the same size (4"X6") and I began this procedure about 2004. This current book has about 20-25 empty pages to be filled then I have to get another book. I'm already looking around for a likely one. No two books are alike, cover-wise.
The embossed metal decorations on this book I made from sheet copper and aluminum and embossed them using a blunt wooden scriber and metal molds from an old Mattel "Creepy Crawlers" set. A red cord from a gift bag and a few wooden beads completes the item.(you need to put a fastener on each book because they get really fat when they're full)

What wonderful treasures! Cherish them.
My journals are not nearly so spiffy but I have recently realised just how many I have now and I have started to go through some really old ones just to relive the feeling of creation.
Please can you tell me where you source the books and do they have other products. As a Vegetarian I get very mixed feelings about the various leather products the western world makes me come in contact with. This is a fantasy of mine for a long time but I've never heard of anyone actually putting it into practice.

Thank you very much. You can find the cruelty-free leather books here: [link] and here: [link]

If you don't want that, there are raw-silk covers, too: [link]

The main site is cool as well: [link]

Maybe you'll find something that will work for you. :D

I've never heard of cruelty free leather--great concept, anyway. ;) These books are awesome! I bet it's fun to look back through 'em. :)

I hadn't either but I can go along with it. Thanks for the compliment- I do enjoy going through them after a long period. I have no greater fan than myself. :D
